    Description

    A Cased J. Swift & Son Folding Traveling Monocular Microscope, late 19th century
    6-1/2 inches high (16.5 cm) (base, collapsed)

    PRIVATE WEST COAST COLLECTION

    The tripod legs and stage fold to pack into the leather box, which is lined with claret-colored velvet. The nickel-plated body tube fits in a split collar attached to rack work. Fine focus is by micrometer screw at the top of the limb. The draw tube is marked in centimeters, 12 - 19". No. 2 ocular, unsigned. Double nosepiece, rectangular stage with clips, fixed condenser with iris diaphragm and flipout filter holder, adjustable plano-concave mirror. Objective: "J. SWIFT & SON LONDON 1/6 N.A. 0.85 47248" in a brass can marked "1/6". 10-1/4" high with draw tube at 16 cm. Box is 9-1/2" long x 4-1/4" high x 3-5/8" deep with leather handle and strap and buckle latches.

    Leather case with name and number written in ink to exterior, straps fragile, leather case with some staining, some wear to lacquer, scattered scratching and patination spotting, with wear commensurate with age and use. Optics not guaranteed.
