Looking more like some kind of fossil "sand dollar" than a natural formation of a metallic mineral, this Pyrite "Sun" was the result of compression between layers of Coal Shale where the crystals of the metal had nowhere to go - or, rather, grow - but out in a radial fashion. This is a very nice, golden Pyrite specimen that measures just under 4.5 inches (11.5 cm) in diameter.
