The partnership features a tightly curated, yet comprehensive presentation of more than 40 pieces ahead of the house's important March 18 auction of Urban Art. In addition to the objects on display, the auction itself offers rare and important artwork across all mediums by artists including Invader, Shepard Fairey, Banksy and RETNA, a painting which may break the artist's auction record set by Heritage in December.
Art and objects in the auction will go on display in glass vitrines throughout the 4th floor of Bloomingdale's New York. Most all pieces represent objects by important contemporary artists, such as KAWS, BE@RBRICK and Supreme, and the cutting-edge counterculture collaborations they have established with brands and artists such as Cindy Sherman, Chanel, Robert Longo. The preview also demonstrates new trends in skate decks by exhibiting Alien Workshop collaboration with Keith Harring and Andy Warhol Foundations.
"Bloomingdale's unique visual presentation and Heritage's growth in the Urban Art movement breaks convention to speak to the sophistication of the luxury designer customer and collector," said Leon Benrimon, Director of Modern & Contemporary Art at Heritage Auctions.
Visitors have the rare opportunity to experience Heritage's auction of the genre's most sought-after works, such as Coco Chanel 1000% by BE@RBRICK, Untitled, from Men in the Cities, an offset lithograph on skate deck from the 2011 collaboration between luxury fashion brand Supreme and artist Robert Longo and No Future Companion (Black Chrome), 2008, by the artist KAWS.
An extended preview of additional auction lots will be on display March 1 – 12 at Heritage Auctions New York, 445 Park Ave. (at 57th Street).
