Muscovite, a Mica mineral, is composed of aluminum and potassium. It is easy to see that this mineral consists of aluminum given its vibrant, layered shimmering faces. This interesting mineral forms in thin laminæ (sheets) as a result of its basal cleavage which causes the crystals to split along their structural planes. Nonetheless, the result is something to behold. This particular mineral exhibits thousands of forest green and gray sheets protruding from a creamy white Orthoclase matrix. This large specimen is in excellent condition, with only a few cracks running across the robust matrix, which do not affect the structural integrity of the amazing example. The specimen has a naturally flat bottom which allows for display without need of a base.
