1928 AHRENS-FOX N-S-4 FULLY EQUIPPED FIRE TRUCK
Approximate length 24 feet
This Ahrens-Fox N-S-4 fire truck was originally ordered by the Biddeford, Maine, Fire Department in 1928. There's no way of knowing how many lives or how much property the truck has helped to save over the years, but there is a powerful presence to the vehicle. After decades of faithful service it has been spending retirement in the Reid Family Foundation, which funded a complete exterior and mechanical restoration in 1999. Great attention to detail was made with duplication of the original paint scheme and hand laid gold leafing. Fresh from a recent servicing and detail, this truck's 998-cu.in. six-cylinder, dual ignition engine fires right up, though it's not clear if the rig's pump can still deliver the same 1,000 gallons per minute that N models were originally rated at. Ahrens-Fox has long since been considered the Rolls Royce of Fire Trucks and, like a Rolls, this presents as an artistic and mechanical masterpiece . The historic Ahrens-Fox is being offered for sale for the first time since being acquired buy Glenn Reid, who served as a volunteer fireman in his youth and maintined a lifetime respect for historic fire equipment and his firefighting brethren. The engine has been shown at various events including the prestigious Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance. Includes a full compliment of hoses, ladders, tools and firefighting accessories of the period.
Heritage Auctions is grateful to Kurt Ernst and Hemmings Motor News for information included in this catalogue entry.
