Gerald R. Griffith was a Chicago-based craftsman and designer who was particularly adept at working with stainless steel. Griffith was personally selected by Mies Van Der Rohe to produce individual examples and prototype versions of Mies' designs before mass-producing them via Knoll International, including the Barcelona chair and ottoman, the flat bar Brno chair, and Tugendhat chair, among others.
