DeWain Valentine is an American minimalist sculptor, often associated with the Light and Space movement of the 1960s. Valentine moved to Los Angeles in 1965, opening his first solo exhibition at Ace Gallery in 1968, and known for his primary work of sculptures of translucent glass and resin, composed of geometric forms that appear simple contrary to the complexity of their design. The present lot is a rare functional work by Valentine, one of two known tables by the artist, and was completed for a seaside California home.
