Heritage Presents Its Latest Fine and Illustrative Arts Auctions!
DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers (HG&A) will offer a spectacular selection of Fine and Illustrative Arts rarities in their upcoming auction, to be held November 17 & 18, 2005, in their Dallas, Texas headquarters.
"This is a substantial auction at over 700 lots, replete with quality works in every category and in all price ranges," said Scott Barber, Consignment Director for HG&A. "There are so many outstanding pieces it is difficult to select just a few highlights."
"The Fine Arts catalog, which will be offered on Thursday, is particularly impressive," Barber said, "most notably in the area of American paintings. Great names in American Impressionism are here, including Frederick Childe Hassam's 1892 Square Rigger Edmund Tarbell's Girl on a Pony, and a major work by New York Impressionist Guy Wiggins, Winter at the Library. Nineteenth Century American works feature marine painter James Edward Buttersworth's Clipper Ship at Cape Horn, Hudson River School artist David Johnson's Catnip Island and a fine selection of watercolors by Alfred Thompson Bricher.
"Great works are not limited to American paintings," Barber continued, "as there is an impressive selection of significant old master works with outstanding provenance. Dutch artists Jacob van Huysum's Still Life with Fruit, Albert Cuyp's Hay Harvest and Ships Refitting at Port by Abraham Storck are included, as well as a documented gem by French artist Jean Honore Fragonard, Stable Interior.
Barber continued, "Collectors of more modern art will bid on solid works including The Mushroom Pickers by Natalia Sergeevna Goncharova, Man Ray's L'Homme Arbe, a mixed media construction, and a selection of works from the estate of Joseph Stella."
"Sculpture enthusiasts won't want to miss Harriet Whitney Fristhmuth's Pas de Deux," Barber said, "and the quintessential image of Western sculpture, Frederic Sackrider Remington's Bronco Buster, Roman Bronze Works cast #150.
"Heritage has many works to appeal to Texas' collectors of Western art with important works such as William Robinson Leigh's dramatic canvas The Killer, Olaf Wieghorst's dusty depiction of a lonely cattle drive and Thomas Moran's exquisitely simple watercolor sketch of Lake Tahoe from 1879. Heritage also expands on its commitment as a market builder for Early Texas art with a significant section of works by Robert Wood and Porfirio Salinas."
"Our Friday session will feature art from America's great Twentieth Century illustrators," added Ed Jaster, Vice President of Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers. "The highlight of this session will be Norman Rockwell's Song of Bernadette, arguably his most reproduced painting, which many will remember as the poster image for the 1944 film of the same name starring Jennifer Jones. This session includes works by such master illustrators as Alberto Vargas, represented by three stunning works from his days with Playboy Magazine in the 1970s, and a group of four works from Gil Elvgren, arguably the greatest pin-up artist of all time, dating from his highly esteemed Brown and Bigelow period. A rare complete set of large mural studies for the Los Angeles Library by Dean Cornwell are available, as well as a charming Coca-Cola ad by Haddon Sundblom and several works from the estate of W.H.D. Koerner, including a set of dynamic illustrations from Mutiny on the Bounty."
"All in all," Barber concluded, "I think I can safely say that this is our strongest and most impressive auction yet."
