Heritage Galleries Holds Its First Texas Art Signature Auction in Dallas

October 7, 2005 Galleries Heritage Galleries Holds Its First Texas Art Signature Auction in Dallas

DALLAS, TEXAS: Heritage Texas Art Auctions held its premiere Signature Auction event in Dallas on October 1, 2005, realizing a solid $571,876. Larry Boettigheimer, Consignment Director for Heritage Texas Art, was "especially pleased with the solid turnout for the event, with more than 100 bidders participating in person, and hundreds more bidding through the Internet. Several lots that had not initially met their reserve were subsequently sold to bidders in Heritage's 'After Auction' feature, and we expect several more works to sell through this venue as it still ongoing."

Internationally renowned fine arts expert Edmund P. Pillsbury, Ph.D., who has recently joined Heritage Galleries as Senior Expert - Fine Arts, was also pleased with the turnout for the first Heritage Texas Art event. "We held a reception and lot viewing for our Texas art clients on Friday evening, featuring brief remarks by Michael Duty, Executive Director of the Dallas Historical Society, and Texas Modernist Art expert Robert Summers. This pleasant and informative evening enabled Larry Boettigheimer to meet with many of his old friends, and for Heritage to make many new ones."

"The classic Texas artists received substantial bidding interest from the live bidders in the auction gallery competing against our Internet bidders," noted Boettigheimer. Highlights of the auction included:

  • Porfirio Salinas (1910-1973): Bluebonnet Mural, c. 1943 Oil; Lot # 23161 Realized $71,700
  • Ben Carlton Mead (1902-1986): Cemetery at Old Tascosa on the Canadian River, West Texas, 1939 Oil; Lot 23216, Realized $35,850 against estimate of $15,000-$20,000
  • Julian Onderdonk (1882-1922): Prickly Pear in Blossom, Oil; Lot 23166, Realized $31,070 against estimate of $25,000-$30,000
  • Everett Spruce (1908-2002): The Coon, 1943 Oil; Lot 23237, Realized $28,680 against estimate of $26,000-$32,000
  • Everett Spruce (1908-2002): The Night Watchman, 1941 Oil; Lot 23238, Realized $22,705

"Texas art in the $10,000-$20,000 range also continued to perform well, especially from the better-known artists and those whose fame is continuing to grow" continued Boettigheimer.
