Four Little Annie Fanny Originals to be Offered at Heritage!
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers (HGA) will offer four original Little Annie Fanny stories, with art by Harvey Kurtzman, Will Elder, Paul Coker, Jr., Jack Davis, Frank Frazetta, and Russ Heath, for publication in Playboy Magazine, in their upcoming Fine Arts auction, to be held May 11, 2005, in their Dallas, Texas headquarters.
"These fully painted pages are a joy to behold," said Ed Jaster, Director of Auctions for HCA. "Little Annie Fanny was a mainstay in the pages of Playboy during the 1960s, a funny, sexy feature that readers looked forward to month after month. Written and laid out by the legendary Harvey Kurtzman, the creator of Mad, they were finished by some of the industries greatest talents."
"The first piece," Jaster said, "is a four-page story called 'The Artist,' with art by Will Elder and Russ Heath, which takes place primarily in an art gallery, and gives Kurtzman and company a perfect opportunity to skewer the modern art scene."
"The second story," said Jaster, "is a five-pager that takes place on a formerly deserted island, now peopled with everyone from Annie, Dick Nixon, and Barry Goldwater to Nikita Khrushchev, Fidel Castro, and even Captain Hook! It's a worthy send up of the American political process, by Kurtzman, Heath, and Paul Coker, Jr."
"Third," Jaster continued, "is a wonderful four-page piece with art by Kurtzman, Elder, Heath, and the legendary Frank Frazetta. It's a parody of the James Bond movie Thunderball, and includes a great caricature of Sean Connery as 007. A spectacular piece on so many levels, with great art and great content from the 1960s."
"Last, but certainly not least," Jaster said, "is a five-page story that brings together the talents of Kurtzman, Elder, Frazetta, and the great Jack Davis, as Annie meets Big Kahuna and hits the surf. Pretty girls on the beach, rendered by some of the greatest 'babe' artists in the business. It doesn't get much better than this."
These pieces carry pre-auction estimates of $10,000 - $25,000 each.
