ACCLAIMED DALLAS ARTIST, DAVID BATES, FEATURED IN HERITAGE GALLERIES FINE ART AUCTION

Dallas, Texas: A dozen artworks by nationally acclaimed SMU graduate, David Michael Bates, are included in a fine arts auction to be conducted by Heritage Galleries of Dallas, October 29 - 31.

"The works include a woodcut, pencil, ink and acrylic drawings, lithographs and original ceramic sculptures," said John E. Petty of Heritage Galleries. "Most of the pieces are from the 1970's and early '80's, just as he was starting to gain national recognition, and they will be offered at auction with no reserve."

The auction also features other works of interest to collectors of Texas and Western art, including two canvases by Texas Hill Country painter, Robert Wood, two works by Frederic Remington, as well as other Western-themed illustrations.

Headlining the fine art lots are works by Mary Cassatt, Maurice Prendergast, Walter Kuhn, Reuven Rubin, and Albert Bierstadt. Other highlights are Georges Rouault's "Les Misereux," and the painting, "Embrace," by Louis Tiffany who is perhaps best known for his art glass but was also an accomplished painter.

Illustration art by famed Playboy pin-up artist Alberto Vargas, Saturday Evening Post cover artist J.C. Leyendecker, and works by important illustrators Gillette Elvgren and Maxfield Parrish also are in the sale.

Vintage photographs in the auction include a rare, signed floral still life by Robert Mapplethorpe and the work of recently-deceased photographer Richard Avedon.

The sculptures in the auction include a collection of Harriet Frishmuth's works consigned by one of the most prominent collectors of her work, Charles Aronson. The exquisite selection of art glass includes nearly 30 vases by the master of Art Nouveau glass, Emile Gallé.

"The Dallas-Fort Worth area is known for its art museums and famous patrons of the arts. It is fitting that there is finally an auction in Dallas with a concentration of quality art comparable to what New York City auction houses offer," said Petty. "This is perhaps the most impressive fine art auction Dallas has ever seen."

The auction will be conducted online at www.HeritageGalleries.com, as well as in-person at Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers, 3500 Maple Ave., Dallas, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 29, 30 and 31.

To order a catalog, contact Nicole Jewell, c/o Heritage Galleries, 3500 Maple Avenue, 17th Floor, Dallas, TX 75219, or call her directly at 214-252-4272.
