Press Release - October 10, 2025

Photographs by Bruce Davidson, Sold Without Reserve to Benefit the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency, Offered by Heritage on Oct. 21

Works by one of America’s greatest living photographers support an international community of artists

Bruce Davidson (American, b. 1933). Pit Pony, Wales, 1965.
DALLAS, Texas (Oct. 10, 2025) — Bruce Davidson is, arguably, America's greatest living photographer. A member of the prestigious Magnum Photos agency, he has made a career as a freelance photographer working for a number of popular magazines such as LIFE and Esquire and creating such distinguished bodies of work as Brooklyn Gang (1959), Time of Change (1961-1965), and East 100th Street (1966). Davidson’s photographs have always received critical acclaim; he was given two solo shows at MoMA, New York in 1963 and 1972 and was also the first recipient of the National Endowment for the Arts photography grant.

On Oct. 21, Heritage presents Photographs by Bruce Davidson, Sold without Reserve to Benefit the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency Signature® Auction. This 57-lot sale of some of his finest photographs, offered with no reserve, is to benefit the Joshua Tree Highlands Artist Residency (JTHAR), a nonprofit organization that supports an international community of artists within the remarkable landscape of Joshua Tree National Park.

“It’s a profound honor to offer works by Bruce Davidson in support of such a vital and visionary program,” says Laura Paterson, Heritage’s Director of Consignment for Photographs. “This auction is more than a chance to collect extraordinary photographs — it’s a rare opportunity to directly support the creative future of artists working in one of the most inspiring landscapes in the world.”

Images and information about all lots in the auction can be found here.
