Description
Fossil Fish TriptychDiplomystus dentatus, Mioplosus labracoides, Priscacara serrata, Cockerellites liops, & Knightia eocaena
Eocene
Green River Formation
Wyoming, USA
This Fossil Fish triptych consists of a trio of large, decorative panels of inlaid fossil fish from the renowned Green River Formation Lagerstätte in Wyoming, dating to the Eocene, over 40 million years ago. The trio is affixed with a cleat system, such that the panels are ready for wall hanging installation. Each individual part weighs 63 pounds (28.6 kilograms) and measures 48 x 20 x 1.5 inches (122 x 51 x 3.8 cm). Quarried out of the Fossil Lake Classic Stone Layer, this sedimentary rock from the iconic "18-inch layer" displays multiple layers of stone texture, throughout, which range from hues of light beige to warm tans, resulting in one naturally artistic matrix, as visually compelling as the beautiful and dark fossil fish, which contrast sharply against the much lighter background rock. The grouping in total contains 13 well-preserved and expertly prepared fossils from the iconic locality, including substantial examples of Diplomystus measuring 18 inches (46 cm), Mioplosus measuring 8 inches (20 cm), and Priscacara measuring 7 inches (18 cm) long, as well as 10 additional examples of various sizes and varieties. Sure to be a showstopping piece in any room or environment, the spectacular 3-panel scene of an ancient freshwater lake is superb.
Single Panel Measurements: 48.00 x 20.00 x 1.50 inches (121.92 x 50.80 x 3.81 cm)
