Description

Aquamarine with Schorl
Shigar Valley, Shigar District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan
8.9 x 2.8 x 2.5 cm (3.51 x 1.11 x 0.98 in)

This Aquamarine crystal is a watery greenish-blue with a striking jet black Schorl crystal growing through the Aquamarine toward the top. The upper half is gemmy, providing perfect vision of the associated Schorl, while the lower half of the crystal shows a cloudy white phantom. Despite the very prominent interrupted growth at the top of the crystal, the Aquamarine still shows a complex termination, merely separated where the Schorl resides. Two of the prismatic faces are textured with impressions from previous very small growths of Schorl, but the remaining faces are glassy and smooth. This piece comes mounted on an acrylic base.

From the Collection of William and Ruth Loomis.

More Information: This specimen is in excellent condition with some minor chatter on one of the corners of the termination, minor internal fracturing in the Aquamarine around the Schorl, and a small nick on one of the edges.
