Description

Amethyst
Goboboseb Mountains, Brandberg Area, Dâures Constituency, Erongo Region, Namibia
7.3 x 7.1 x 5.7 cm (2.87 x 2.79 x 2.24 in)

The Amethyst specimens from the Brandberg area are known worldwide for their deep color and excellent zoning, but it's not often that one sees them presented so aesthetically on-matrix. The Amethyst crystals in this particular specimen are accented with skeletal features and have deep purple zoning at their cores with gemmy colorless exteriors. This piece's glassy crystals are encompassed in an almost bowl-shaped matrix, creating a very well-balanced and eye-catching presentation. The largest crystal reaches 4.0 centimeters in height and is presented at the forefront of the display, making it the natural focal point of the specimen. This piece comes with a custom acrylic base.

From the Collection of William and Ruth Loomis.

More Information: This piece is in excellent condition with one repair on the front of the main crystal, some stabilization work at the center of the specimen, and one repair on the back side of the matrix.
