According to the artist, the present work was commissioned by the Boy Scouts of America's 1910 Society. The prominent senior figures who appear alongside the scouts include, from left to right, Ernest Thompson Seton, Daniel Carter Beard, Waite Phillips, and Theodore Roosevelt, all of whom played important roles in shaping the organization (J.
