Description

Cuprosklodowskite
Musonoi Mine, Kolwezi, Mutshatsha, Lualaba, DR Congo
11.2 x 7.9 x 6.6 cm (4.4 x 3.1 x 2.6 in)

Fully lining the interior of this vug are thousands of superb Cuproslodowskite-a well-known copper-bearing uranium mineral from the finds in the Congo, which reach up to 1.0 centimeter in length. The crystals have a needle-like acicular habit that, when combined with the shades of dark and lime-green, stand out against the matrix to somewhat resemble a crystalline pasture of grass. Most of the crystals have a silky luster that flashes nicely to give a subtle shimmering effect to the compact group of Cuprosklodowskite.

Ex. F John Barlow collection.

More Information: This piece is in excellent condition. Please note, this is a uranium-bearing mineral that exhibits low to moderate natural radioactivity. It should be handled with care. Avoid ingestion and wash hands after handling. It is best to store in a sealed container to minimize the spread of particulate material and open within a well-ventilated area.
