NWA 10415 Lunar Meteorite Slice - 3.55 Grams. Lunar (feldspathic breccia) . Northwest Africa
Description
NWA 10415 Lunar Meteorite Slice - 3.55 GramsLunar (feldspathic breccia)
Northwest Africa
Found: 2015
This complete slice of the lunar meteorite NWA 10415 represents an exceptional example of a feldspathic impact breccia ejected from the Moon's surface. Found in the Sahara Desert in 2015, the discovery consisted of just three stones totaling only 164 grams, making any specimen from this fall exceedingly scarce. The slice exhibits the classic dark gray to black matrix interspersed with light feldspathic clasts, along with scattered Olivine and Pyroxene grains-a texture typical of lunar surface material formed under the immense pressures and heat of meteoritic impact. The breccia consists of molten and vaporized rock fragments re-fused into a fine-grained matrix during the violent collision that ejected it from the Moon. Unlike most meteorites, lunar specimens are non-magnetic, containing only trace amounts of metallic Iron-Nickel, which further confirms their extraterrestrial origin. A rare and scientifically important example of material from the lunar highlands-a fragment of the Moon itself, highly prized among both collectors and planetary scientists.
Measurements: 1.57 x 1.31 x 0.06 inches (3.98 x 3.33 x 0.15 cm), weighs 3.55 grams
Provenance: Property of a Distinguished Southern California Collector
