Gogotte Sculpture. Oligocene. Fontainebleau, France. ...
Description
Gogotte SculptureOligocene
Fontainebleau, France
Formed over 30 million years ago, this Gogotte is a naturally sculpted Quartz concretion from the Fontainebleau region of France. Composed of minute Quartz grains bound by Calcium Carbonate, each Gogotte develops into a distinctive, fluid form shaped entirely by nature. Renowned for their porcelain-like surface and intricate, abstract contours, Gogottes are celebrated as mineralogical works of art, inspiring both scientific curiosity and aesthetic appreciation. The pure, fine-grained Fontainebleau sand, prized since the 17th century for its exceptional quality, lends the sculpture its smooth, matte finish. Comparable examples are housed in Natural History museums worldwide, and Gogottes are highly regarded for their geological rarity and sculptural elegance.
