Fossil Pecten Plate. Gigantopecten restitutensis. Miocene. Vaucluse, Lacoste, France
Description
Fossil Pecten PlateGigantopecten restitutensis
Miocene
Vaucluse, Lacoste, France
A dramatic fossil assemblage of twenty-seven scallops, Gigantopecten restitutensis, preserved as they were naturally deposited in Miocene shoreline sediments from the Lacoste region of Vaucluse, France. The genus represents large marine bivalve mollusks, and the present plate captures the beauty and structure of these ancient shells in remarkable three-dimensional relief. The naturally blanched coloration of the fossils contrasts elegantly with the pale Limestone matrix, emphasizing the textural complexity of the composition. The plate has been professionally backed with high-grade birch plywood and is fitted with a cleat system for secure and effortless wall display. A superb and decorative fossil panel, equally suited for inclusion in a scientific invertebrate collection or as a striking natural focal point in a refined interior.
