A Pair of Narino Gold Ornaments... (Total: 2 )
Description
A Pair of Narino Gold OrnamentsColombia, c. 800 - 1500 AD
Finely hammered and repoussé gold alloy. These luminous ornaments combine bold form with delicate surface detail. Each disk is dominated by a tall, thimble-shaped cone whose mirror-like surface reflects a surrounding ring of repoussé bosses, themselves encircled by a fine band of tiny granules. The result is a play of light and texture that changes in the light or as they move. A small piercing near the edge suggests they were once attached on a garment, as part of a pectoral, headdress, or as ear ornaments, where their shifting reflections would have amplified both ceremony and status. Both in excellent condition. Each with a custom metal stand.
