Description
Calcite and GalenaElmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA
28.3 x 19.6 x 16.2 cm (11.14 x 7.72 x 6.38 in)
An absolutely massive cluster of sharp, twinned, doubly-terminated Calcite scalenohedrons, with the largest rising from the center of the specimen, all set on a flat Galena and Sphalerite matrix. Characteristic of these Elmwood Calcites, each crystal has a rich yellow to amber color that intensifies and becomes more transparent towards the terminations. Isolated amongst the smaller Calcites are additional associations of lustrous Sphalerite crystals and steel grey Galena-the largest crystal (reaching 4.6 centimeters in length) is located near the bottom of the main Calcite.
More Information: This piece is in excellent condition. There is some minor bruising on a couple terminations.
