Description

Selenite
Naica Mine, Naica, Saucillo Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico
23.4 x 11.2 x 8.1 cm (9.21 x 4.41 x 3.19 in)

Every side of this specimen presents a dramatic fan of sharply twinned, blade-like Selenite crystals that are glassy, colorless to faintly milky, and strongly lustrous. The Selenite rises from a white matrix composed of rounded, bubbly aggregates of what is likely Aragonite. Many of the Selenite blades are partially coated by this Aragonite, adding contrast and subtle opacity that subtly defines the crystal forms.

From the collection of Daniel "Dan" R. Kennedy.
Ex. Jim Parrish collection.
