Just southwest of the San Jacinto Valley is the source of this impressive specimen, which neatly features a single massive and very well formed dodecahedral crystal of Almandine with trapezohedral modifications along the edges. Measuring 6.6 x 5.7 centimeters, the Almandine has a deep wine-red hue that stands out perfectly against the silica and feldspar rich matrix. Adding a bit of texture to the Almandine, each of the flatter dodecahedral faces are textured with shallow stepped growths.
