This tiny island of personal space... is a motif Davidson uses repeatedly in the East 100th Street project. Broken rubble and tufts of grass amid the rubble-and-trash covered ground around the housing blocks act as a stage on which family groups pose, and on which the pre-possessed gait of a solitary figure is meaningfully isolated and described. There is a subtle pathos in these pictures - in the absence of a pastoral background, the stark contrast between each person's thoughtful self-presentation and their desolate context.
