Ginkgo leaves have a characteristic "winnowing fan" shape, and this small example of whitish-orangey fossil is preserved in the typical matrix of rusty brownish rock. The striations of the prehistoric leaf are prominent and well-defined. This is a prototypical representation of the material of the Sentinel Butte Formation known for producing such coveted fossil leaves.
