Artist Larry Poons applies thick layers of paint in ways that allow gravity and chance to shape his work. By pouring, dripping, and scraping paint, he lets it slide and collect in uneven layers, imbuing his paintings with a visceral energy and sense of movement as colors blend in surprising ways. His works are known for their dynamic, almost sculptural quality, with raised surfaces that invite viewers to experience the texture as much as the color.
