SLICE OF UNUSUAL & EXCEPTIONAL PALLASITE: SPRINGWATER
Pallasite, PMG-an
Springwater, Saskatchewan, Canada (52° 0'N, 108° 18'W)
Originally mass found 1931, rediscovered 2009

For those of you that are unaware of it, Canadians no longer need to suffer from "Pallasite Envy" - that condition engendered by watching neighboring countries recap public acclaim and glory from their Pallasite finds. In truth, Canadians haven't had to worry about such things since 1931, when the first piece of Springwater was found in a field about 100 lonely miles west of Saskatoon: The Pearl of the Plains. Two other Pallasites were soon found and then things quietly faded back into extended somnolence for three-quarters of a century, which is when a few intrepid Yank meteorite hunters decided to check out the area of the first discoveries. The deployment of modern technology in the form of ATVs and metal detectors soon resulted in more chunks of this Pallasite turning up. This lovely slice is a product of that renewed search in the pea fields of Saskatchewan. After this piece was sliced, it has been lovingly polished on both sides, to display the fabulous contrast between the Nickel-Iron matrix and the gemmy, golden Olivine crystals embedded in that matrix.
Overall Measurements: 5.41 x 5.39 x 0.11 inches (13.74 x 13.69 x 0.29 cm), weighs 133 gm (4.69 ozs.)
Offered at no reserve.
