As mentioned in connection with Lot 73058, the Capillitas Mine is a poly-metallic ore deposit that has been worked for over 300 years. Copper, Gold and Silver in significant quantities were taken from the upper portions of the volcanically associated ore bodies. The captivating "Inca Rose" Rhodochrosite that is only found here has no equal, which accounts for the high level of demand for specimens of this rosy mineral. Supply is erratic at best and large slices of the good color are getting more difficult to find. Here, three separate Rhodochrosite stalactites have grown together and later over coated with more of the pink mineral, resulting in a large mass that was mined and then "sliced" across the stalactites to produce the three "bulls-eyes" shown on this polished slab. Color runs the gamut from ruby-red grapefruit to bubble-gum pink with a dark line on one side that outlines the curved bands. This piece is in excellent condition with a good polish and is custom mounted on an acrylic stand.
