Description
RhodochrositeKuruman, Kalahari Manganese Field, Northern Cape, South Africa
"A cluster of deep red transparent pointed rhodochrosite crystals with a few tiny black manganite? crystals. Bought this specimen in Kuraman [sic] from the well contractor Viljoen. The scale under the image is an inch with a rule at one cm."
- Rock H. Currier
We all thought that these babies would continue to flow out from Hotazel every time the miners mined through the fissure zone they came from. Well, we were wrong. Wrong. Wrong, Wrong, and Wrong. Everyone sat around waiting for the call that never came. So ... what you see is what you get. All extant specimens are either well ensconced in collections or are waiting for the Grim Reaper to free up a few now and then. If you are still without one, you could do worse than to consider this little gem. Hint. Hint. Or you could just go to Hotazel ... and wait ... and wait ... and wait.
