Description
Manhattan Project GlassManhattan Project Hanford Site
Southeastern Washington, USA
This gorgeous and brilliant piece of Manhattan Project Glass has been expertly fashioned into a unique work of art. The polished, geometric form represents material associated with the Hanford facility that was tasked with producing the Plutonium for the development of the atomic bomb. From Washington, this glass is 70% Lead Oxide and actually prevented the scientists from radiation even though it looks a bit "hot" given its surreal, yellowish coloration. The clear material is a most interesting artifact from an important time in American history that is rather finite in quantity. This relatively larger and decorative example weighs 5 kilograms (11 pounds), and the combination of the intense hue and serious radiance makes this unlike anything else. A high-caliber specimen, this is not radioactive and is worthy of being treated as a historical relic and a piece of scientific Americana in addition to its obvious artistic beauty.
Measurements: 6.73 x 3.35 x 2.36 inches (17.10 x 8.50 x 6.00 cm), weighs 4.98 kilograms (11 pounds)
