Description

FROM THE ESTATE OF DR. EDMUND P. PILLSBURY

MAL LUBER (American, b. 1938)
Self-Portrait, circa 1973
Pencil on paper
57-3/4 x 40 inches (146.7 x 101.6 cm)

EXHIBITED:
Paul Misrachi Gallery, New York

NOTE:
Luber's meticulous technique, and bold patterns of highlight and shadow, are qualities that characterize the photorealist art Ted Pillsbury collected avidly during the 1970s. Luber works from photographs he takes of his subjects which serve as sketches for his much larger finished compositions. A resident of Connecticut, he has been a working professional artist for over 30 years, and has been exhibiting nationally since the early 1970s. Luber was an emerging artist when Ted Pillsbury acquired three of his drawings.

We are grateful to Mr. Luber for confirming the authenticity of this lot and providing information on its history.
