Description
Pyritized Ammonite PairSpeetoniceras versicolor
Lower Cretaceous
Volga River, Ulyanovsk Region, Russia
This exceptional fossil pair showcases a beautifully preserved Speetoniceras versicolor Ammonite from the Lower Cretaceous, transformed through natural pyritization-a rare process in which Iron Sulfide (Pyrite) replaces the original shell material. The result is a subtly sparkling golden sheen that enhances both the outer texture and internal structure. The specimen has been expertly halved and polished to a high luster, revealing the intricate spiral of chambered septa within. Each gleaming cross-section displays the complex internal geometry of this extinct marine cephalopod, with brilliant golden tones highlighting the natural mineralization. A fine and collectible example of fossil preservation and mineral transformation, ideal for both scientific display and aesthetic appreciation.
