Description
Martian Meteorite NWA 16403 - 69.8 GramsMartian (shergottite)
Northwest Africa
Found: 2022
This incredibly "fresh" looking specimen is obviously a complete individual meteorite fully covered in black fusion crust. The texture is spectacular over the entirety of the chunky form. The piece has not been cut - as it remains a whole stone - and such material was recently classified as NWA 16403, first found in 2022. An uncommon gabbroic variety of Shergottite, this dark material is coarse and dynamic, with an almost wet appearance. NWA 16403 represents extraterrestrial ejecta from the Planet Mars, and this mass of consubstantial composition weighs a quite sizable 69.8 grams. Any piece of Mars is an inherently rare offering, but one of such scarcity, quality, and fine aesthetics is something special, indeed. This black rock, from the Red Planet, can rest in multiple orientations and is in virtually pristine condition - at least for something that traveled here from space. As any example of a meteorite from Mars is a true rarity, one with such superlative attributes does stand out as a collector's specimen of note. Weighing 69.8 grams, this is a sizable and nicer meteorite.
Measurements: 2.15 x 1.65 x 1.26 inches (5.45 x 4.20 x 3.20 cm), weighs 69.8 grams
