Pallasites

Admire Meteorite Slice
Pallasite, PMG
Kansas, USA - (38° 42'N, 96° 6'W)
Found: 1881

The pallasite type of meteorites represents a mere fraction of all classified meteorites, accounting for something like only 100 to 200 out of some 70,000 to 75,000 known classified varieties. Rare is an understatement in general when discussing the Pallasites, and several in that exclusive club are even more special. Admire from Kansas, which was first found in 1881, is considered one of the top examples, featuring an abundance of various-sized golden Olivine crystals amid the metallic matrix, which is perfectly exemplified in this sizable, irregular slab. This gorgeous slice weighing 419 grams is polished on both sides and literally covered in colorful crystals of Olivine, resulting in a dramatic, and highly translucent, example of the PMG meteorite. The thin section boasts a large surface area with a maximum dimension exceeding 8 inches (20 cm) and a most artistic shape with some rather sizable crystals featuring vivid hues of gold, brown, yellow, and green. This is one spectacular slice.
Measurements: 8.27 x 7.32 x 0.15 inches (21.00 x 18.60 x 0.37 cm), weighs 419.1 grams
