Description
NWA 17270 Lunar Meteorite End Cut - 40.3 GramsLunar (melt breccia)
Algeria
Found: 2024
A phenomenal example of melt breccia, this piece of NWA 17270 is indeed a piece of the Moon. A result of pulverized regolith being melted then solidified back into a glassy mass, this specimen is extremely special due to the presence of rare basaltic and granobasaltic clasts. The polished and reflective display face showcases a myriad of inclusions, including such igneous materials, which are typically very uncommon in lunar meteorites. Weighing 40.3 grams, this elongated example is an end cut offering the 'best of both worlds' - literally - with the light and rocky exterior standing in stark contrast to the dark, smooth, and artistic polished window surface. Found in Algeria in 2024, this is a relatively "recent" find of lunar material and represents a supremely collectible specimen. This nearly 3-inch (7.6 cm) rock has a peculiar mix of black, white, gray, charcoal, and brown hues.
Measurements: 2.89 x 1.37 x 0.66 inches (7.33 x 3.47 x 1.67 cm), weighs 40.3 grams
