Description

Ammonites

Ammonite Fossil
Cleoniceras sp.
Cretaceous
Madagascar

Polished smooth over both sides, this relatively inflated Ammonite fossil is as decorative as it is collectible. Measuring nearly 10 inches (25 cm) at maximum diameter, this ancient cephalopod displays incredible, complex suture patterns. This well-preserved specimen is solid, and heavy, and exhibits a mottled mixture of coloration, including hues of brown, gold, cream, and gray. The polish does not go completely into the whorl, but each section is smooth and pronounced. Fine Calcite replacement provides much of the color and a crystalline richness to the spiraled form. Expertly prepared, this fossil from Madagascar dating to the Cretaceous Period is a superlative example. This piece features minimal 'imperfections' and only a few areas of fill and irregular texture.
Measurements: 9.45 x 7.87 x 1.91 inches (24.00 x 20.00 x 4.86 cm)
