At 3.35 inches (8.5 cm) in diameter, this sphere is anything but little. The large metal "ball" consists exclusively of Campo del Cielo Meteorite, which has been etched to showcase the Widmanstätten pattern of this Iron, IAB-MG. Weighing some 2.9 kilograms (6.4 pounds), this steely orb evidences a few natural patches of rough meteorite from beneath its, otherwise, smooth surface, and a system of riverine crevices further reveals the metallic composition of such exotic extraterrestrial material showing a bit of minor rusting, as the Iron content has been exposed to oxygen in the atmosphere. Meteorites fashioned into unique geometric forms such as spheres and cubes are uncommon and universally popular, and meteorite spheres of this size - and larger - are simply few and far between.
