Description

June Lindsey Signed & Inscribed Drawing of Double Helix
8.5 x 11 inches

This fabulous sketch of the structures integral to the DNA "double helix" shows an Adenine and a Guanine molecule and is inscribed "Structures solved by June Monica Broomhead during 1946 - 1949. Later, this discovery was used by Crick & Watson to determine the structure of DNA." The drawing is signed as "June M. Broomhead, now June M. Lindsey" whose work in X-ray crystallography solving structures of purines, adenine, and guanine led directly to James Watson and Francis Crick discovering the "double helix" molecular structure of DNA for which they, along with Maurice Wilkins, were given the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1962. In blue ink, this schematic with caption and the signature of the renowned physical chemist stands as a most unique 'artifact' of scientific history. The 8.5 x 11-inch white paper on which the rendering was drawn is bright, with only minor crinkling.
