A well-preserved fossil Gar, Lepisosteus simplex, from the F-2 layer of the Green River Formation, known for its shoreline depositional environment. This species, a relative of the modern Gar, is distinguished by its armor-like scales and elongated snout, features clearly visible in this specimen. The fossil displays an unusual dorsal-lateral preservation of the skeleton, allowing for excellent anatomical detail. The Limestone matrix is backed with wood and fitted with a metal cleat system for easy wall display. The Gar measures 33 inches (84 cm) from tip to tail. A striking and scientifically significant example, combining exceptional preservation with refined presentation.
