Description
Hadrosaur Dinosaur Partial FemurKritosaurus navajovius
Late Cretaceous
Aguja Formation
Javelina Creek Ranch, Brewster County, Texas, USA
This partial femur is from a Dinosaur of the hadrosaurid variety known as Kritosaurus, which was a duck-billed genus that lived during the Late Cretaceous. The specimen, surprisingly found in West Texas and presented on a custom black metal armature, weighs a robust 40 pounds (18 cm) yet is still only a portion of the longest bone. This 'head' represents the proximal end featuring a superb "knuckle" form and exhibits a mottled golden-brownish coloration. The massive offering, out of the Aguja Formation, shows minor surface fracturing but is solid, exhibiting excellent permineralization that has resulted in the once organic being truly hard as rock. This stunner from the Lone Star State measures approximately 10 inches (25 cm) tall and 11 inches (28 cm) across - big - even for Texas.
Overall Measurements: 12.60 x 11.42 x 7.48 inches (32.00 x 29.00 x 19.00 cm)
More Information: The accompanying image is an artistic interpretation, based on knowledge from the fossil record and ancillary factors, of the potential appearance of the above extinct animal. Please note the rendering does not accompany the Lot.
