Description
Muonionalusta Meteorite Cube - 1,677.2 GramsIron, IVA
Norrbottens, Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E)
Found: 1906
Meteorite might be thought of as an odd material to use as "rough" for cutting and fashioning into other objects, but it can result in some of the most amazing creations with incredible backstories. In this case, a piece of the famed Muonionalusta Meteorite which was first found in 1906 provided the raw material for this exquisite offering. The glamorous meteorite cube has six relatively similar faces each measuring 2.35 inches (6 cm) on the edge. Considering the cutting loss, this geometric marvel weighing 1,677 grams (3.7 pounds) no doubt started out as a much larger piece of the Iron, IVA, from Sweden. Clean and dramatic, this metallic block is seriously intriguing and sure to start more than a few conversations. A most unique and fashionable way to own a meteorite, this also represents potentially the oldest meteorite on Earth having fallen likely some 1 million years ago, and which is thought to have formed some 4.6 billion years ago! Of course, the more immediately noticed qualities are the intense Widmanstätten patterns on the squared surfaces and the simply wonderful consistent soft metallic hue of the rock from Outer Space which fell in the Arctic Circle.
Measurements: 2.35 x 2.35 x 2.35 inches (5.97 x 5.97 x 5.97 cm), weighs 1,677.2 grams
