While flies are not uncommonly preserved in Amber, large examples of the insect are quite rare. This is an unbelievably big fly, and the piece of fossilized tree resin exhibits numerous superb attributes. This specimen, weighing 3.24 grams, displays an artistic shape, wonderful clarity, a fabulous golden coloration, and even rests securely on a relatively flat bottom edge. The preserved fly is absolutely huge relative to the size of the Amber in which it is trapped, and magnification shows a superlative amount of detail to the ancient arthropod, especially to the massive wings coming off its dark body. This polished specimen looks like a tiny piece of sculptural art, and the inclusion is simply special.
