Description
Beryl var. AquamarinePadre Paraíso
Minas Gerais
Brazil
This stout Aquamarine crystal, measuring virtually 6 inches (15 cm) in height, was mined from Brazil's world-renowned Minas Gerais pegmatite region. The complex crystal was mined exclusively from the Padre Paraíso area, which is fast becoming a popular source for these large and unique collector-grade specimens. These incredible crystals grew in now eroded pegmatite veins, which today are mined out. Each crystal is either collected from an eluvial or colluvial deposit. This example weighs 525 grams, is doubly-terminated, and features a light greenish icy-blue hue. The dramatic crystal is "gemmy" and translucent in areas with visible complex growth patterning and has a columnar form with sharp and lustrous faces. Since the crystal was formed in hydrothermal conditions, the result is interesting tiered growth patterns and a dissolution-etched texture on the crystal faces. There is even a slender sidecar crystal. The sizable collector specimen has a glassy flat-top termination, some minor Iron staining, and a few spots of stark white Albite matrix. This monumental crystal is in excellent condition and is accompanied by a custom acrylic base.
Measurements: 5.91 x 1.48 x 1.02 inches (15.02 x 3.76 x 2.58 cm)
