Description

Theropod Dinosaur Claw
Spinosaurus sp.
Late Cretaceous
Kem Kem Group
Morocco

Measuring nearly 6 inches (15 cm) in a straight line and well over 7 inches (18 cm) on the curve, this fossilized claw represents the manus or "killing" claw from a Spinosaurus dinosaur. A very rare fossil, especially in terms of the size and quality of this sample. The subtly mottled light tan specimen has been expertly prepared with minor visible restoration and likely only two well-repaired cracks commonplace with fossilized claws. With extraordinary size, a pronounced curve, and a visible marrow channel on both sides, this museum-level offering shows the magnitude of the dinosaur it represents. Larger than even T-rex, Spinosaurus was the longest theropod and likely had a unique aquatic lifestyle. A terrifying beast, this example of claw supports the sinister nature of the colossal predatory meat-eater. Dating to the Late Cretaceous deposits of the famed Kem Kem Beds in Morocco, this fossil claw is "A-grade" from proximal to distal.
Measurements: 5.65 x 2.11 x 1.36 inches (14.34 x 5.37 x 3.45 cm)
