Description
Native Copper (Massive Crystal)White Pine Mine, White Pine, Ontonagon Co., Michigan, USA
42.4 x 17.7 x 7.3 cm (16.69 x 6.97 x 2.86 in)
A 40 centimeter specimen of pure crystallized Copper is as impressive as it sounds! Not only is the overall dimension of the specimen huge, but the individual 'branches' that make up the specimen are proportionally sized as well, resulting in a beautifully balanced display that is aesthetically pleasing where most other specimens of this size tend to lose that aforementioned balance, as most specimens simply will not feature crystals this large. Tabular tributaries of twisting and turning Copper reach out in all directions, each having their own complexities in their structure and texture. Even more notable is the wide range of colors that mottle the length of the specimen: the base color of olive green intermingles with patches of maroon, bronze, yellow, even a little bit of blue, and finally stark spots of white from residual Calcite associations. This unusual range of colors is a result of both the natural patina and iridescence from the metallic luster.
