Description
Whitecourt MeteoriteIron, IIIAB
Alberta, Canada - (53° 59' 57"N, 115° 35' 51"W)
Found: 2007
This Whitecourt Meteorite weighing 64.9 grams was found on camera during the first season and on the premiere episode of Geoff Notkin's Meteorite Men, about the "Buzzard Coulee & Whitecourt Crater." Notkin's favorite episode, the crater was accessed by ATV, with only a few pieces being found, of which this was the second largest. The crater is in a protected area, and the surrounding areas have been heavily hunted with no new pieces discovered. This example is much larger than most others that were found at the locality. Accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity, this little fragment is dark and dull with a truly meteoritic appearance to its rustic form with a brown patina, grainy texture, and sharp, extended edges. This representation of the iron from Alberta, Canada, looks like what a meteorite should and is very solid.
Measurements: 2.01 x 1.06 x 0.73 inches (5.11 x 2.68 x 1.86 cm), weighs 64.9 grams
Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
