Description
Native SilverWhite Pine Mine, White Pine, Ontonagon Co., Michigan, USA
8.6 x 6.0 x 3.0 cm (3.38 x 2.36 x 1.17 in)
The allure of metallic minerals lies in their strong reflective properties, with Silver - particularly crystallized Native Silver for mineral collectors - being the epitome of this feature. The undulating form of this Silver plate is finely textured, but the lack of a smooth surface still does not impede on the ability of light to catch and reflect exceptionally well, resulting in a specimen that is both textural and still very bright. The bubbly form of this specimen could almost be described as botryoidal, if it weren't for the fact that this Silver plate does not consist of radial aggregates, but rather formed as a thin shapely plate, perhaps as a cast after a previous botryoidal mineral. The backside is relatively smooth and flat, and serves as a dark backdrop for additional microcrystals of Silver that are scattered across this silhouette.
