A Very Fine Veraguas Gold Pendant
Panama, c. 700-1400 AD

A male with large bird head standing between upper and lower wing-form flanges. Emanating from the sides of his head are spirals and bird heads in profile. From his ankles emerge similar profile bird heads. His hands are held palm forward with, each wrist with a bracelet with a sharply pointed barb pointing out. The barbs and beaks nicely echo one another. A loop for suspension at the back. Finely cast from high content gold alloy (tumbaga). In excellent condition.
