An Important Cocle (Macaracas) Gold Pendant of Deer Heads
Panama, c. 700 - 1400 AD

Two antlered deer heads surmounted by highly stylized crested crocodile heads in profile. The lively deer heads have long snouts featuring rows of finely detailed teeth and raised nostrils, their four-pronged antlers rise gracefully to nearly touch each other. A magnificent, heavy casting of gold alloy (tumbaga) with a high gold and silver content. Three loops at back for suspension. In excellent condition. With an acrylic and metal stand.
